Casa del Cafe-Familiar

Great accommodation in beautiful grounds.

Pros: We stayed in the cleverly architected studios. Well-furnished, spacious, spotlessly clean and all set in beautiful secure grounds. The owners are also charming and very helpful. We had delicious chicken casserole at the nearby soda el vallee. And delicious chiccarones (not for vegans) near the square in Barva (15mins stroll) - at chicharronera La tipica. Had a couple of beers in Bar BCB mixing with some of the locals on Karaoke (Monday) night ! We really liked the authenticity of Barva in contrast to the tourist resort that is La Fortuna where we are now staying - it’s not terrible but is more about amusing the tourist rather than revealing the country itself - each person to their own preferences I suppose. Our Spanish is dreadful but we try, and in all of these places in Barva we were met with courtesy and helpfulness The country as a whole, and Barva in particular, has much to be proud of - mucho Gracias.

Pros: Wonderfull clean appartments with everything you need, next to the 160 year old house. The garden is big and the owner is very welcoming, friendly and helpful.

Pros: The owners and staff were lovely and very helpful. The grounds were beautiful and the rooms were great and had everything you need.

Lovely quiet authentic mansion

Pros: Lovely hidden gem in San Jose An old mansion, kept in perfect condition with most lovely staff / owner. We only stayed for one night as we directly headed for Tortuguero, but if you want a quiet place this is just perfect

Pros: A beautiful grand home, a lovely family. Comfortable and pacious room, hot water, good internet.

Great house located a short drive from the airport

Pros: We stayed in Casa del Café for one night the day we arrived in Costa Rica. We only spent the night and left early the following morning. The location a short drive away from the airport was perfect, the house is beautiful surrounded by a big garden, the hosts very attentive and friendly.

Pros: Excellent place to stay. Comfortable and clean. Spacious bedroom and bathroom. Mini fridge in the room was a plus. Attention was great as well. Recommended!

Cons: The bathroom was private but was outside the room. You just need to get used to it.

A pleasant memory.

Pros: After the long journey, we spent one night there and left in the morning. It was perfect for us. The garden is beautiful. The host was helpful.

Cons: We didn't sleep in the big house. It was not in the pictures. But it was perfect.

Pros: Amazing historic house and garden and a huge room with high quality bedding and furniture.

Cons: Tea and coffee maki g facilities were mentioned, but were not available in the room.

Pros: It’s a beautiful old house set in pretty gardens, with lots of birds flitting about. The family who run it were very kind and made us delicious breakfasts.
