Cabañas Colibrí Tayutic

Pros: The host Jose was very enthusiastic about the birds on his property and was very eager to show us around. His wife prepared some delicious meals. The cabin was comfortable with a bushland view and spacious deck to relax.

Pros: This property is perfect for bird lovers, the host is extremely enthusiastic and showed us around the property and the various birds. The view from the cabnas are also nice, but definitely rustic and in nature. Ideal for people looking for sleeping in nature and really into birds.

Pros: A great birding spot! Jose was a very helpful host. He picked us up in Torrialba and drove us to the Cabanas. He showed us some of the local birding spots. The cabins were clean and comfortable. Meals were simple but good. Very good value for money.

Great place to stay while birding

Pros: An excellent place to stay in the area, especially if you are there for the birding. Much more affordable than similar birding lodges in the area, and very close to Tayutic Mountain Reserve (which I strongly recommend visiting as well). You can stay here and visit Tayutic Mountain Reserve during the day for a price point that comes in at about a quarter what you'd spend to stay at the most well-known birding lodge in the area. The included breakfast was very good.

Pros: Great rooms with very flexible owners. Hummingbird feeders gradually attracting birds. Pasta for dinner was amazing

Good location at a good price

Pros: The host was exceptionally helpful. The property has lots of birds. It is a shame he doesn't organise bird tours.

Cons: We paid extra to have fruit at breakfast but we did get a huge bowl of fruit that we were unable to finish. He needs to organise Bird tours to be in competition with Rancho Naturalista

Great place for birding and hummingbird photography. Recommended.

Pros: If you enjoy birds and nature you will love these cabanas. Situated in a garden planted with birds in mind, there are so many hummingbirds and many other species, even a toucan! Jose is a great guide, and took us down to the river to look for a sun bittern. We ate local breakfasts - eggs, rice, beans and plantain, which were delicious. Very friendly and helpful hosts.

Cons: Cabanas are basic but have everything you need.

Prima plek in de natuur ten zuiden van Turrialba.

Pros: Mooi plekje waar de gastheer zijn best doet om vogeltjes naar zijn tuin te lokken. We hebben er 's avonds ook gegeten en dat beviel prima. Prima bed, warme douche, internet in de cabaña.

Cons: Eigen vervoer is wenselijk om de omgeving te verkennen, incl de voorzieningen in het dichtstbijzijnde dorp La Suiza en in Turrialba. Een bezoek aan de nabijgelegen Rancho Naturalista is vrij prijzig, dus we hebben ons beperkt tot de eigen tuin.

Pros: De gastheer was uitermate vriendelijk, een echte vogelliefhebber. Hij doet alles om zijn gasten het naar de zin te maken. We zaten in een chalet, omringd door groen en heel veel vogels, vooral kolibries. Een genot om zittend op de veranda daar naar te kijken. We kozen ervoor om 's avonds een simpele maaltijd door de gastheer te laten verzorgen. Het was heel lekker. Hij bracht elke avond de borden naar de chalet gevuld met gebakken kip, vis of vlees, gebakken aardappelen en een salade. Alles vers en smaakvol. Na 45 min haalde hij alles weer op.

Cons: Eigenlijk niets waar de gastheer iets aan kan doen. De leefgeluiden, zoals een haan die om 4 uur in de ochtend kraait, of honden die aanslaan 's avonds.
