Pros: The attention to detail, the place, the pool, the food, all was really amazing. I loved the place, would totally come back. The staff does a really great job, and they make sure you will have a great time. Totally a worth

Pros: Beautiful buildings and furnishings . Staff are absolutely lovely.

Pros: This was the final and also the most expensive hotel on our six-stop journey through Costa Rica – unfortunately, it ended up being only the second-worst. Four of the six hotels we stayed at offered a significantly better overall experience. The grounds and the room are undoubtedly beautiful, but they do not justify the steep price in any way. Service is decent, but for a 5-star hotel in this price range, it's rather average. The same applies to the food: it's good in terms of taste, but absolutely overpriced. During our trip, we enjoyed much better culinary experiences at far more reasonable prices.

Cons: All in all, it's a nice hotel, but the value for money just isn't there. If you're expecting luxury, you'll only get above-average quality at best. There's definitely room for improvement. In the end, it’s a pretty hotel that doesn’t live up to its promises. For the price we paid, we had far better experiences elsewhere on our trip.

We had a wonderful stay but some minor issues stopped it from being perfect which was a shame.

Pros: Wonderful pool and poolside bar. Clean. Comfy beds. Nice outlook. Short walk to a lovely beach. Free sunscreen available at the pool is a nice touch.

Cons: Food in the main restaurant in the evening wasn’t to our liking, which was a shame because it had a wonderful position and outlook. We ate outside of the hotel most nights. The welcome needs to be tightened up. Our driver was told to drop us off at the gate, there was no one there to welcome us. We then had to walk to the reception because there was no golf cart. There was also works going on at the entrance so the initial impression wasn’t great tbh and not what I expected of a hotel at this price point. You don’t get a second chance to make a first impression. Room had damage. Communication from front desk was poor. Had to chase timings for pick up for tours. Wasn’t told that the full cost of the tour hadn’t been put on the room and had to pay more on the day, which wasn’t an issue but would’ve been nice to have been told.

Enjoyable stay at Makanda by The Sea

Pros: We enjoyed everything! Staff was great, kind and really helpful. The room, the hotel itself was gorgeous. We saw more animals in the hotel’s surrounding than in Manuel Antonio. Pool area chic and relaxing.

Stunning hotel in a beautiful location with the bonus of beach access.

Pros: Stunning grounds, access to the beach, pool areas and rooms. Creative luxurious bedroom bathroom and common areas. Mostly delightful staff and being taken around by buggy's was helpful given the steep gradients

Cons: Reception staff always busy. Watch out for a last-minute mini-bar scam - we settled the bill to then be informed that we taken whiskey (the most expensive!) and a bottle of Evian water, we hadn't touched the minibar. However we'd returned to the room just before check out time and saw the bottles had been removed from the minibar and were left on a glass table which looked strange. We argued and they didn't charge us thankfully

Amazing Location

Pros: Location and service was oustanding. The view was breathtaking. Perfect spot for a relaxing week

Wonderful - will be bringing the wife next time

Pros: The room was wonderful, the staff helpful and exceptional, and the private beach was incredible, such an unforgettable highlight.

Cons: Nothing not to like. Would prefer some traditional dishes on offer, or South American fare.

Everything was great!

Pros: The whole environment was simply fabulous! The room, our terrace, the pools, the service and the food... everything was just perfect. Even nature was on our side with a sloth on the premises and a whale jumping in the distance.!! Walking around can be a challenge due to steep walk ways. But the Hotel is offering internal transport services.

Already planning our trip back!

Pros: Amazing place where we ended our honeymoon and are already planning on an anniversary holiday back! The place is incredible, so perfectly designed to fit with its surroundings. The staff were amazing, the food incredible and facilities and views a dream. What a place…

Cons: We were lucky with our room but some rooms were further down and it’s all on a hill…however a quick call to reception and a golf buggy will pick you up so no problem! Also it rained so can confirm that the hills are perfectly safe when wet!
