Paraíso Quetzal Lodge

Located in the heart of the cloud forest, Paraíso Quetzal Lodge is a natural sanctuary protecting 80 hectares of extraordinary biodiversity. Magical location and wildlife

Pros: The cloud forest location was exceptional and you can see multitudes of birds from your cabin as well as beautiful cloudy sunsets & mountains. The trails you can walk from the property are magical and full of lush vegetation and ancient trees and waterfalls. The staff were extremely helpful and kind. We took the 5am tour to see Quetzals and though busy the guide was ace and we saw several.

Cons: We underestimated the cold - bring jumper and waterproofs. Our more basic cabin 10 was close to the wood which we appreciated but a little way up to the restaurant in high altitude so might be good to check if this would be a problem.

Pros: Nice biew of the valley. Various interestig trails starting closeby.Good dinner. Early morning quetzal tour very good, gudes made a big effort so we could see the quetzales.

Cons: Superior Bungalow with jaccuzi not worth the extra cost. We would prefer standard bungalow another time.

Great place for bird watching

Pros: Views from the cabin and restaurant, gardens teeming with birds, hummingbird garden, trails through the property for seeing birds and waterfalls, old growth trail. Resplendent quetzal flew right into tree next to cabin. Restaurant dinners were excellent.

Cons: Not much hot water, jacuzzi in cabin but only 1 inch hot water so couldn’t use it. Would be better using that space in cabin for comfy chair. Bed was very hard as was wooden bench to sit on in cabin. Cabin was cold at night, space heaters helped. Often warmer outside cabin in morning so would be nice to have a couple of chairs outside cabins to sit in sunshine and watch birds.

The place to stay if you want to see a quetzal!

Pros: Amazing views, balcony and seats in front of our room. A heater and extra blankets as it can be cold at this high altitude location. A lovely area with humming bird feeders in the garden. Nice restaurant. Best of all the hotel arranged a guided trip to see a quetzal!

Pros: The bird watching tour was very good. We succeeded in seeing several Quetzals thanks to our guide David The trails around the property are pretty nice as well and the restaurant cozy and serving very good food.

Pros: Amazing location and views, friendly staff and very well-maintained lodges.

Cons: The trail marking was confusing at times and didn't match with the maps.

Pros: Great location, super friendly staff. Trails extremely well maintained, even found some puma prints down one of the trails

Cons: It gets very cold around the area, could probably invest in double glazed window and replace the fan in the room with oil heaters, be cheaper on the electricity and heat the rooms a lot better. Also slightly better lighting in the rooms.

Good for birding but not comfortable for staying

Pros: Quite new bungalow, great views. Good restaurant. Nice staff. 5 species (4 endemics) of humming birds (on the feeders) and quetzals (during guided tour, because at the beginning of the December quetzals are not in the property, but in lower elevations).

Cons: Cold, uncomfortable with totally inefficient and relatively noisy heating. Surprisingly light construction without thermic nor sound insulation (as in lowlands). Inefficient water heater (shower). Not even a hairdryer. They offer you coffee and tea, but you have only coffee maker. Beds and pillows not comfortables. Mould in shower joints... Disappointing.
