Pros: Super central, big rooms with curtains, power outlets and clean
Cons: One shower had a big window that had no curtain so others could watch you while showering, if they‘d want to

Very much recommended hostel in SJ
Pros: I like this hostel a lot, very nice garden with an open kitchen, and the volunteers are all chill, as well as their cat (Hugo?). I also really enjoyed their music playlists. The hostel offers free coffee until the late morning.
Cons: The beds in the mens dorm could be more comfy, which is why I chose to stay at the Guesthouse next door most of my time in SJ.

Pros: The hostel is good and conveniently located: there are shops nearby, and it’s easy to walk around the city. In my opinion, the area is quite safe. Inside, the hostel was fairly cozy, and it was possible to relax and spend time comfortably. The staff are friendly and always willing to help. The downsides: the shower and toilet are outside the rooms. There were no bedside tables or hangers in the rooms to store or hang personal belongings, which for me is a significant drawback. Also, the top bunk beds are very uncomfortable: climbing up requires effort, and there is a high risk of falling because there are no additional handrails or handles to hold onto. However, if you sleep on the lower bunk, the beds are quite comfortable. Overall, the main disadvantages are the lack of a private bathroom in the room, the absence of handrails on the beds, and the lack of bedside tables or hangers. That said, considering the low price, some of these issues can be overlooked.

Pros: Very cozy place near to the city center, with greenery and pool and many places to chill and even a little yoga corner. Relatively quiet for San José. A good place to stay even for more than one night. Friendly staff and 24/7 reception. Breakfast, lunch and diner available.
Cons: Food a little bit expensive.

Nice oasis place in the capital
Pros: Reading the comments was expecting a little less clean, to be honest, but I was nicely surprised. The pool for me was the highlight. The area is nice and clean, they have different zones , bar, pool, chill area and all spatially separated. There were a few hammocks and the beds by the pool.
Cons: The kitchen was always full of ants, which I guess is not really their fault and it did seem like it was cleaned various times during the day, but still, anything that you leave outside will be infested with ant within a moment. There were only 2 showers that I found in my block of dormitories of 6 people, however I actually never had to wait for a shower at any moment.
