Amazing! Rural lodge with incredible views and nature.
Pros: The Vistavista Lodge is absolutely incredible. We loved every minute of our two-night stay. It’s completely off the beaten track but very much worth the slightly bumpy road to get there. The views across the lake to the volcano are simply breathtaking. Waking up to that panorama each morning was something special. The staff are so warm and welcoming, and the food was delicious throughout our stay. There’s also a beautiful waterfall on the property, it’s a bit of a trek to reach, but absolutely worth the walk. The lodge arranged a half-day bird and nature walk for us with a guide called David, who was excellent. If you can request him, do, he’s knowledgeable, passionate and made the experience even more memorable. If you’re looking for somewhere peaceful, surrounded by extraordinary scenery and far from the tourist crowds, The Vistaverde Lodge is perfect. Oh, and don't forget to buy some of their coffee from the manager's farm. Fab!!! A taste of Costa Rica at home :)
Cons: The room was a little cold but we had warm gear and once in bed, with the blankets, it was nice and snug. You are at 1700m here and with no wind protection, it can get chilly but don't let that put you off, just take trousers and a fleece. You'll need it in the Cloud Forest anyhow.

Great little place and nice people
Pros: Amazing views; lovely staff; great breakfast. Other reviews talk about the worst road ever… they clearly have not driven in Costa Rica! Their road is better than the road to Selvatura!
Cons: It’s all fine and basic.

A wonderful experience.
Pros: The view of the Arenal volcano and surrounding forest was spectacular. We had no Spanish at all, but the family made every effort to welcome and look after us, cook food that we liked (including the amazing banana pancake!). My daughter and theirs played happily with the family dog. The lodge is just a few minutes from the Santa Elena cloud forest reserve. Our stay was everything we could have wished.
Cons: Balancing hot and cold water in the shower was a challenge - but we didn't come for the shower!

An authentic very reasonably priced stay in a beautiful location with warm welcoming hosts.
Pros: It is in a beautiful location. The accomodation is basic but has everything you need. If you want WiFi and TV it’s not for you. But the views and being in the clouds more than makes up for that. The food is really nice and the people who own and run this are lovely. We enjoyed our stay here immensely.

Best view in Monteverde
Pros: Best view of the Arenal Volcano. We stayed 3 nights, but 2 would be enough. We visited ecological reserve and Selvatura Park. The host served delicious breakfasts. We also ate dinners at the lodge. It was a very tasty local food with great presentation. The host, Eulogio, recommended a hike to the falls on the property, and we followed his advice. It took us about 1 hour to complete the hike and see the falls.
Cons: It was very cold at night. The room needs a heater or warmer duvet. The road from town to the lodge was very bumpy. But most of the roads in Costa Rica are.

Nice staff, clean rooms, great banana pancakes!
Pros: Breakfast was excellent! Especially the banana pancakes! WOW! Location was pretty far out of town, maybe 15 minutes or so. Grounds looked pretty but it was cold while we were there so we did not explore the farm.

Lovely
Pros: The staff is super nice and the food delicious. The view is really nice and we dis have a really peaceful stay, we really enjoyed it, it is worth the extra drive from downtown.
Cons: Tips: we drove there from La Fortuna in a car and managed it well (though super slowly) but if you’re driving in the rainy season half of the way will probably require an SUV and even a 4x4. In the dry season a car worked for us. Try the banana pancake, it’s delicious for breakfast.

The views are amazing and the staff super friendly. Dinner was delicious. I'd recommend it to anyon
Pros: The views are amazing. I stayed in #16, the end unit. I woke up to the sunrise over the mountains and a view of Volcano Arenal. The grounds were full of beautifully, bright colored flowers. I took the time to hike their private trail to the waterfall and was rewarded by hummingbirds and other birds. I would definitely recommend this place.
