Hotel Heliconia - Monteverde

Lovely base for a stay in

Pros: As described on the website. Well-located: short car journeys to the tourist sites surrounding Monteverde. Comfortable bed, lovely view over Monteverde from the restaurant. Saw an agouti, a coati and lots of birds in the grounds.

Cons: Being a bit picky now, but the restaurant could be improved. The menu felt a bit pricey for what was on offer. Breakfast buffet was a bit basic. And it would be nice if the background music varied a bit - only so many saxophone covers of Rocket Man you can sit through before it becomes a bit grating. Wouldn’t be an issue if you plan to eat most of your meals down in Monteverde.

Pros: the staff there were so kind, the tour activities were great, the lodge itself and the views were beautiful, the breakfast was great, the spa was wonderful, and the location was perfect.

Cons: cold

Lovely place for a vacation

Pros: Good location, great views, good breakfast, and helpful staff. Every morning so many birds in the trees outside would wake us up with their chirping. So many beautiful birds: parrots, tucans, etc. Make sure to bring binoculars to see them. This was a bonus.

Cons: There was no A/C (or heater) in our room. It didn't bother us a whole lot but it would be nice to have this.

Pros: Comfortable, clean, spacious rooms. Large garden full of wildlife with a short trail around the property. Amazing views. Wonderful stay. Great, friendly staff.

Great location if you have a hire car, friendly staff, spacious and comfortable room.

Pros: This property is is very spacious with a beautiful wooden decor. We were travelling as two friends and found it a very comfortable for plenty of space in the room. the sunset from the balcony was stunning. Its comes with a fridge and small freezer which is handy.

Cons: There were a lot of bugs and flying insects that got in through the bathroom window that we were not able to fully close. But considering the location of this property it’s not surprising to have some bugs and it wasn’t horrendous. We didn’t mention this to the staff but I’m sure if we did they would have assisted straight away.

Pleasant stay in the hills of Monteverde

Pros: Lovely hillside setting with great views especially at sunset. Room good value; basic but large, clean and with comfortable (and massive) bed and nice hot shower. Also massive bath. No AC in rooms but could even do with heating as nights get a bit chilly in Monteverde. Staff were all pleasant and breakfast was good- best gallo pinto we’ve had in Costa Rica!

Cons: Getting charged $5 for an imperial beer during happy hour was something of a surprise…

Pros: Staff was exceptional kind and professional. The view from the hotel was beautiful. Location to restaurants and local market was key.

Pros: El personal fue atento y ameno, las vistas desde el hotel eran espectaculares.

Cons: El desayuno no sabía rico y la variedad de opciones era limitada.

Pros: La ubicación, está céntrico y tiene linda vista. Personal muy servicial y el cóctel de bienvenida fue un lindo gesto.

Cons: Ruido por trabajos que estaban realizando y limpieza de instalaciones muy temprano, lo que hizo difícil poder dormir hasta tarde.
