Fabulous lodge with great staff

Pros: The lodge was beautiful! The owner went above and beyond in helping us have a good stay. We had booked a trip to the King Vulture hide which was a bit of a wash out due to heavy rain so Alfonso the owner took us around on a drive to show us the area. Very kind! The staff were all super and the room itself was just stunning. We stayed in Corteza which overlooked the river and had an outdoor shower.

Cons: The distance from the reception to the room was a bit of a trek up and down hill. More of a hindrance because of heavy rain. Once you were in the room the view made it worthwhile! There are 3 newly built chalets near reception if you want to avoid a long walk. The food could be improved. The pasta was delicious but the chicken was over cooked and the breakfast quite basic.

Great location, loved watching a huge variety of birds and room with outside bathroom was perfect.

Pros: Great location by a river - loads of birds and other wildlife. Loved the outdoor bathroom and the veranda with hammock and appreciated the fresh coffee and fridge in the room. We really enjoyed the river trip up to the Nicaraguan border especially that the boat picked us up right outside our cabin.

Pros: Barhroom very beautiful… Lots of birds right at the lodge. Besutiful surroundings. Nice people.

Pros: Loved this little hotel, rooms were located right on the river, with a little verandah area so you could spend time emersed in nature. Heliconias flowers attracted humming birds right next to where you sat. We had an outdoor shower, which was fun. Erica and Frances were helpful and kind. We also enjoyed the boat trip down the Rio San Carlos and were amazed by the variety of animals and birds seen. A great place to spend a couple of days 😁

Cons: Make sure you pack insect repellant, you are very much immersed in nature 😀

Pros: Great location. Very good quality/price ratio. The staff were very friendly and accomodating.

Cozy place with great location on top of a hill with really friendl staff.

Pros: The staff is very friendly and engaged, the view and the fresh air flow on the patio and the terace is really nice.

Rainforest Lodging

Pros: All the outdoors feels. We only stayed one night and unfortunately the rain preventing us from doing the rainforest hike, but none the less we loved the stay. The outdoor bathroom / shower area was fantastic, as was the decking which looked out over the forest and river. Breakfast was great as well.

Cons: Nothing I can think of

Magical

Pros: The location was magical. Particularly loved the outside bathroom. Fridge and coffee maker useful. Humming birds and iguana outside our windows. Amazing view. We went horse riding and on the boat trip. Really informative and excellent guides.

Cons: We had the Corteza room, which was next to the steps down to the river, so we had people walking past our windows. This only happened a couple of times but reduced our feeling of privacy.

Off the tourist track

Pros: Boat trip up the San Carlos river to the Nicaraguan border. Lovely local guide Alan, who also took us on a night hike in the jungle. All organised through the Lodge.
