Evergreen Lodge

A great location - in nature

Pros: Being in the jungle and close to the water. The bar area where we could watch the action on the water. The spa facilities were fantastic. The reception staff are exceptional and most helpful.

Cons: No coffee making facilities or hair drier in the rooms.

Great staff and good location

Pros: The staff were amazing. Really helpful and arranged everything we needed. The breakfast was excellent and they arranged for us to have it early before we left as we were leaving before normal service. Rooms were clean and beds comfortable. Thin walls and no windows (just fixed mesh).

Cons: Quite noisy at times. Not a problem from the jungle/natural noises, but people were quite loud. Quite a large group of students and an American tour arrived, and while they weren't being intentionally loud, the amount of people meant more noise. Also leaf blowers quite early on. There weren't any wildlife walks around the lodges which was a shame, although we did see some things.

Pros: Beautiful setting, we loved the cottages nestled in the middle of the rainforest. Falling asleep to the sounds of animals was a truly special experience. Nice pool area.

Cons: Unfortunately, the toilet was blocked and we had to ask for assistance three times before the issue was addressed. The restaurant has room for improvement, and while the area is clean, it feels rather cold and not very cozy. Dining there felt more like being in a canteen than a welcoming restaurant atmosphere.

Pros: The place is amazing! It’s really special to have a bungalow in the middle of the jungle without any windows (just bug screens). It’s nicely located at the same island as the national park so there are a lot of monkeys and other animals around the rooms. We do recommend the boat tour activity and tortuguero hill tour offered by the hotel. Swimming pool was great!

Cons: We don’t recommend the “jungle walk” offered by the hotel as it’s just a walk around another hotel and is with a very big group.

Wonderful stay in the heart of the jungle.

Pros: Breakfast was great. Fruit, cereal, cooked option, omelette made to order. Brilliant.

Cons: All great.

Very good value for money

Pros: VERY helpful friendly reception staff. also waiters. Also swimming pool.

Good value for money, great home-cooked food and helpful staff.

Pros: The buffet dinner and breakfast were the best thing about the hotel - home-cooked Costa Rican food, healthy and wholesome. The staff were all pleasant and helpful, and made a special effort to offer us vegetarian meals.

Cons: The room / chalet was a bit dark and dank because it was on stilts in a rainforest swamp. Having to get a river taxi boat from the main Tortuguero dock to reach the hotel was a little inconvenient, eg the first boat taxi you can get from the hotel is at 5am, which meant we missed the migration of hatched turtles into the sea.

Pros: Receptions very helpful in booking trips, organising boats, booking lunch etc. place fantastic, saw monkeys on walkways around our rooms and around pool area and other wildlife. Umbrellas provided, which was needed.

Cons: Needed to wear our mosquito spray but you are in the jungle after all.

Pros: All of those working people were extremely kind and cool except the lady at the reception. I had a small problem and she was not willing to help me. Nature!

Cons: The opening times for the pool were not made for the guests. 9AM-9PM. What about 7am-7pm? It would fit to those restaurant times. We wanted to use the pool at 9 am. Unfortunately it was not prepared till 10 am. I’m not sure whether the name Evergreen is right. They spread repellents and the cleaning water from the rooms were put into nature.
