Villa San Ignacio

Great quirky hotel for nature-lovers, conveniently close to the airport based in Alajuela

Pros: Comfortable stay in a room set in the grounds of a lovely old villa, with beautiful gardens, lots of wildlife, a nice little swimming pool, and a great breakfast included with the room rate. We chose this hotel for its proximity to the airport, for our last night's stay in Costa Rica, after touring for 3 weeks around the country. It was a good choice, as we had a very restful final night and morning, before returning our rental car and our long-haul flight home.

Cons: There was no hair-dryer in the room, and I was too tired to request one. Not a deal-breaker, but it would have been nice to have had one readily available.

A great value for money option when needing accommodation close to the airport

Pros: Conveniently located to San Jose, check-in was smooth (if a little diy) and room was as expected. Onsite restaurant was good with great staff.

Cons: NOISY!

Look no further

Pros: Such a great start to our holiday in Costa Rica. The grounds were beautiful and sitting by the pool was idyllic. It is convenient for the airport but feels miles away. All the staff were very friendly, including the security at the gate and the waiter in the restaurant. We had a delicious meal in the evening and a lovely breakfast. Recommend highly.

Tropical paradise

Pros: Beautiful gardens and pool area. Secure parking, very friendly staff.

Cons: Really need a small fridge in the room in this climate. Had to pay extra at breakfast for fruit juice in a country where tropical fruit is very plentiful and cheap. It literally grows on trees. I don't drink tea or coffee.

Pros: Perfect place to stay nearby to the airport. Beautiful gardens. Breakfast was ok

Pros: Lovely staff who helped find us taxis to get around.

Cons: Unfortunately our shower was cold. Staff tried to fix it but unsuccessful. While not the end of the world, was not what we wanted in the cooler evening after a long day of exploring.

Pros: The breakfast was really good! The surroundings are a nice touch of nature to enjoy!

Cons: Location worked for us for a specific need, but otherwise I think it would be difficult to get to.

Perfect place to unwind after a long flight

Pros: This is a perfect place to stay a couple of nights to unwind after a long-haul flight before setting off to other parts of the country. The staff were lovely, the hotel grounds were peaceful (don’t miss the lush hiking trails!), and the food was excellent. After checking out, we had to wait a few hours for our ride to La Fortuna. We couldn’t have asked for a more relaxing place to kill a few hours waiting for our minivan to arrive.

Cons: Our only gripe was a small mistake on the restaurant bill on one of the two occasions we ate there. However, this was soon resolved with good grace.

Perfect start to our Costa Rican adventure.

Pros: Only a short distance from airport it was ideal to instantly feel that we had really arrived in Costa Rica. A lush oasis and beautiful villa with spacious room and friendly staff. Superb breakfast on the terrace in the garden followed by a swim in the pool before commencing our onward travel to see the country.

Cons: The property is close to the road and can be noisy, so bring ear plugs.
